Research Paper Quick Check

Startling and informative opening

Have you ever wondered what goes on in prison death chambers? Have you ever thought about all those prisoners who seemingly just disappeared? Our country, our states, our government, kills the killer. This is where our murderers end up, dead. Most people don’t think about this because the government shields us from their heinous acts, so I want to let you know what really goes on if you were on death row, how they kill Americas citizens, how the death penalty makes people more violent, and how America, the land of the free, violates the sanctity of life that god gives everyone and no one should have the right to take away.

Quick summary of main question that I mean to answer or reason I think this topic is important
Why should the government be able to murder and choose who lives and who dies? Also why should the government be able to break the law and murder, when if we murder we are punished with death?

Two or three most interesting things I learned from research

Mentally retarded people are executed even when they aren’t smarter than children, and we don’t execute children because we realize that they aren’t smart enough to realize the consequences of their actions. The grisly firing squad is still in use, especially in the middle east where many unfair and false trials are held, and it is also used in The United States where the government is trying, or so they say to execute their death row prisoners the most humanly way possible.

Confirmation or rejection of one or two commonly held beliefs about this topic

The lethal injection is not, as most people think, a very humane way of execution. Many things often go wrong where the prisoner ends up dying rather slowly and painfully. Often times the needle will fall out of the prisoners arm spewing deadly drugs around the death chamber, and leaving the prisoner hanging painfully in the balance of life and death. Other times the straps are too tight and the prisoners blood flow is restricted so the drugs do not flow through the blood stream as they are supposed to, which ends up with one of the three drugs administered does its job before its supposed to, either stopping the prisoners lungs first or their heart, when they are still fully awake and conscious of what is happening.

Something to connect the topic to the reader's life so that he/she will care

What if someone close to you, one of your parents, or maybe one of your friends was at work and their was a stabbing. Your friend, being the quick to act person that they are, rushes to the dying victim and is holding them and comforting them. The killer, not being stupid, quickly calls the police and they rush to the scene and your friend is accused of the killing by the actual murderer. There was no evidence against this, and in an unfair court, because the victim was a girl and your friend was a man, your friend was found guilty. About a month later they were executed by the “humane” lethal injection. How would this make you feel? This has happened many times before and now your poor friend has just become another victim of the government.

A closing surprise...intriguing fact, quotation
Though most of the inmates executed were guilty, we must remember those that weren’t so that they may not have died in vain. Let them be an example of how our government deals with life and death, if there were no innocent executions, It might not be as bad, but there are and it seems like our government and courts have an attitude of “well, they might have been guilty, good enough for me.” So we need to protest because "When injustice becomes law, resistance becomes duty."
